The Poker for Research (P4R) event was inspired by Emily Thomas, Nikki Javit’s youngest sister, who was diagnosed at age 7 with Juvenile Diabetes. Nikki and Matt Javit began P4R in 2004 as a home based poker game in which the proceeds were donated to the JDRF Walk For A Cure, which is held in the fall every year. That original event, which raised $400, has grown to raise over $5,300 last year with the help of many great local companies, family, colleagues, and friends. This year’s goal is to raise an aggressive $8,000 and we are motivated to accomplish this! Our mission is to have fun, make connections, raise a lot of money, and most importantly, find a cure for Juvenile Diabetes.
**Type 1 diabetes is a chronic (lifelong) disease that occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin to properly control blood sugar levels.
